Kelburn’s Winter Ceilidh

Kelburn's Winter Ceilidh

We are kicking off 2014 with a return to the beautiful Kelburn Country Park where we will be warming up the cold winter months with ceilidh dancing and a big dose of signature Modhan tunes. See you all there.

Review – The Living Tradition

Thanks to all who came down to our gigs at Hootanannys and the The Old Bridge Inn last weekend, we had a great time playing some gigs up North.

In other news our album “The Admiral’s Fireworks” received a great write up in The Living Tradition…” the music is always accessible to the ear, emphatically melodious and rich with rhythmic variety”

End of Australian Tour 2013

We have reached the end of the Modhan Australia Tour 2013.  Over the last 6 weeks we have played 25 gigs over 4 states and Graham and Andy have both done some recording on upcoming albums from local artists Lucy Wise and Tolka respectively.

A huge thanks to the many very friendly families who have kindly let us stay with them as we have travelled around, the hospitality shown us has been amazing and incredibly important in making the tour the success it was.

A huge thanks also to Chris Stone, who has been playing violin with us whilst we have been out here. As the first picture shows and as we’re sure Chris would agree, many memories were created and dreams fulfilled.

And finally the following is a video taken of us playing Better Help the Peacocks at Devonport Regional Art Gallery in Tasmania.  Better quality video’s of some more of our tracks will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.

Extra Gig Added

We have added one last extra date to our Australia tour. We will playing at the Mars Hill Cafe in Parramatta, nr Sydney on Tuesday 26th February.

ABC Tasmania North Radio Interview

We are currently in the middle of our week in Tasmania and we have all been loving every minute of it. We have enjoyed cracking gigs in beautiful spaces in both Devenport and St Helens, thanks to everyone that came and for making us all feel so welcome. We also to managed to squeeze in a interview and live session with ABC Radio Tasmania on Drive with Damien Brown which is still available to listen to by following this link.

We are finishing our week here with a concert at Brookfield Winery in Margate tonight and a ceilidh in Wesley Hall,  Hobart tomorrow, if you’re in the area you know what to do.

Ceilidh with a Lagerphone

As we are just about to set off for an action packed week in Tasmania we thought a quick blog about our gigs in Melbourne is overdue. As previously mentioned our time in Melbourne has been relatively lengthy due to recording commitments of various band members, however we managed to squash in a ceilidh and a concert in the vibrant musical suburb of Northcote.

First was the ceilidh which was enjoyed by a large number of Melbournites who embraced Modhan’s high energy Scottish ceilidh with gusto. Very rarely have we packed so many dances into such a short space of time.

A highlight of the ceilidh was Andy making and using a lagerphone, an Australian Bush instrument made from beer bottle caps and wood. Andy was given the raw materials and set the challenge of designing his own lagerphone, see below.

The following evening we played a concert at the rustic creperie Open Studio, it was a lovely place to play due to the great atmosphere and friendly crowd. Tomorrow we are heading to Tasmania for a busy week of gigs and ceilidhs, we will also try our best to post some long awaited footage of us playing, keep an eye on the blog…
